The Morose Mononokean- Anime Review

I have always been interested in yokai, which is why one of my favorite all time manga and anime is Natsume's Book of Friends. When I saw this complete series set at Half Price Books seeing, it also had to do with yokai I couldn't resist and had to get it.

Plot

If you thought starting high school was hard enough try also dealing with yokai on top of your studies like Ashiya Hanae. It all started his first day of school when a strange being clung to him weighing him down mentally and emotionally, but no one else can see the problem. With no one able to help, he finds a flyer for an assistant exorcist.

Ashiya then meets Abeno who is known as the Mononokean who can exorcise Ashiya's yokai problem, but at a price. Ashiya ends up paying for the exorcism by being Abeno's assistant. Together, they will work together to solve people's yokai problems if only can stop fighting each other.

Review

This is just what I was looking for when it comes to yokai anime. Abeno and Ashiya are great at solving the yokai problems and the yokai themselves are fun and interesting. It's a shame, it only has 2 seasons and when it ends there are many mysteries left unsolved. The manga is complete of course, but was never released physically in English.
